We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing manufacturing organization. This role is responsible for full-cycle accounting functions with a strong focus on payroll, manufacturing costing, inventory analysis, and month-end financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings experience working within a large company environment, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and has strong analytical and organizational skills.
The Senior Accountant will work closely with operations, production, payroll, and finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, costing analysis, and compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Complete account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Support external audits and year-end working papers
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Manufacturing Costing & Inventory
- Maintain and analyze standard costing and product costing processes
- Monitor manufacturing variances including labour, material, and overhead costs
- Perform inventory reconciliations, inventory valuation analysis, and support physical inventory counts
- Partner with production and operations teams to improve costing accuracy and operational efficiencies
- Analyze production performance and provide reporting to management
Payroll
- Oversee and process payroll accurately and on schedule
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, remittances, deductions, and reporting requirements
- Maintain payroll records and support employee payroll inquiries
- Coordinate year-end payroll reporting including T4 preparation and reconciliation
Process Improvement & ERP Support
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencies
- Support ERP system maintenance and process enhancements
- Assist with implementation of financial controls and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation completed or in progress is considered an asset
- Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing costing, inventory accounting, and payroll processing
- Experience working within a large company or complex organizational structure
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
Preferred Experience
- Experience with standard costing and variance analysis
- Exposure to high-volume payroll environments
- Experience supporting audits and financial reporting requirements
- Manufacturing or industrial industry experience strongly preferred
