Job Title: Construction Safety Officer
Job Description
This role oversees safety on a large, fast-paced mixed-use construction site, ensuring that all workers follow established safety protocols and that incidents are documented accurately. You will work primarily on parkade and residential tower scopes within a major redevelopment project, combining active site presence with hands-on support and clear communication across trades.
Responsibilities

Walk the construction site regularly to monitor work areas and verify that all safety protocols and procedures are followed.

Identify unsafe conditions, hazards, or at-risk behaviors and intervene promptly to correct or escalate issues as needed.

Document all incidents, near-misses, and safety observations in a clear, detailed, and timely manner.

Prepare written safety reports and incident summaries for internal records and for communication with project stakeholders.

Support and reinforce site safety orientations and toolbox talks by providing practical guidance and feedback to workers.

Collaborate with site supervisors and trades to plan work in a safe manner and to address safety concerns proactively.

Use hand tools and power tools safely when assisting with general labour tasks related to safety controls and housekeeping.

Assist with general labour duties as required, such as maintaining clear access and egress routes, organizing materials, and supporting safe site logistics.

Read and interpret blueprints and site drawings to understand work scopes and associated safety risks.

Promote a positive safety culture by modeling safe behavior, communicating respectfully, and encouraging workers to raise safety concerns.
Essential Skills
-
Valid Construction Safety Officer (CSO) ticket.

Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 3 certification.

Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Construction Safety Officer.

Hands-on experience in construction environments, including exposure to carpentry, framing, wood framing, and general labour.

Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a construction setting.

Experience working on commercial construction projects.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact clearly and respectfully with workers, supervisors, and project partners.

Professional attitude with a focus on teamwork, reliability, and accountability.

Ability to work night shifts from 9:30 pm to 9:30 am.

Work Environment
This position is based on a large, active redevelopment site that can have up to approximately 2,000 workers on site at any given time. You will focus on safety for parkade structures and several residential towers within a multi-phase project, working as part of a dedicated safety team that collaborates closely with the general contractor. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with multiple trades operating simultaneously and heavy equipment, materials handling, and high-elevation work occurring regularly. You will work night shifts from 9:30 pm to 9:30 am, Monday through the week, which requires comfort working overnight and maintaining alertness throughout long shifts. The role is entirely site-based, involving extensive walking, climbing, and time spent outdoors and in partially enclosed structures, in varying weather conditions. Standard construction site attire is required, including appropriate personal protective equipment such as hard hat, high-visibility vest, safety footwear, and other PPE as needed for specific tasks.
