An exciting career opportunity exists at Mainroad Mid-Island Contracting LP for a Trade Journeyman (TJM) Mechanic. The TJ Mechanic will be responsible for repairing and maintaining company vehicles and equipment among other duties. This position will be based out of Mainroad's Duke Point yard in Nanaimo, BC. This is a unionized position, with wages, benefits and other terms and conditions of employment outlined in the Collective Agreement.
The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:
- B.C. Certificate of Qualification, and/or Interprovincial Red Seal endorsement in a recognized mechanical trade is required. Automotive Service Technician, Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, Commercial Transport Mechanic, Truck & Transport Mechanic or a comparable recognized trade will be considered.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
- Valid class 3 driver's license is preferred.
- Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) Inspection Certification is an asset.
- Minimum of 3 (three) years’ experience as a Mechanic is an asset.
- Fleet-maintenance or Automotive experience is an asset.
- Experience completing field repairs and servicing equipment at various work locations is an asset.
- Welding and fabrication experience is an asset.
- Willingness and ability to travel to different work locations and work on a rotational basis when required.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Capable of performing physically demanding duties and working in varying weather conditions.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Safety-conscious, dependable and committed.
- Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Job duties include the following:
- Inspecting, diagnosing, servicing and repairing fleet vehicles and equipment operated by Mainroad Mid-island and other Mainroad Group companies in accordance with scheduled preventative maintenance programs and other operational requirements.
- Performing repairs in the shop and in the field as operationally required.
- Completing, recording and submitting all required inspection, maintenance and repair documentation.
- Maintaining a clean, organized and safe work area.
- Following company safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
