Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for an Associate Director, Information Systems Development to join our team in Burnaby!
The Associate Director, Information Systems Development provides vision, leadership and hands-on mentorship to the IS Department. They lead the architecture and development of our custom application portfolio. This vision and the resulting applications must satisfy internal and external stakeholder needs and guide the infrastructure and client service teams to ensure the supporting systems and services are in place to realize results.
The portfolio of applications overseen by this role includes internally developed custom software and integrated packaged applications for use by internal and external stakeholders. This role ensures that all these applications are appropriately integrated into a single portfolio solution with shared business processes and security, and in collaboration with our infrastructure and packaged software teams, ensures a smooth and consistent experience for the system users. The role ensures that business analysis always occurs to find the correct balance of technology and business process.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As a senior member of the Information Systems management team, the role directs the department's operation and activities; this includes the portfolio of services, ongoing stable system operations, risk identification and mitigation, and security.

Responsible for providing strategic guidance and oversight to the development team including hiring, ongoing performance management, coaching/mentoring, and making recommendations on training and development for direct and indirect reports.

Works with external partners, Project Management Office (PMO) and organizational leaders to create a prioritized governance list of desired new solutions and enhancements and to establish a multi-year custom application portfolio roadmap with an associated budget.

Manages the overall relationship with all stakeholders concerning the IS application portfolio to ensure that expectations are established, and commitments made and delivered. Is responsible for managing the delivery of development commitments to internal and external stakeholders.

In collaboration with PMO and independently, defines project structures and scope, and identifies the strategy to deliver custom application portfolio solutions incrementally. Leads and participates in cross-functional planning and road mapping activities. Assigns or reallocates resources to projects.

Mentors and leads a team of senior developers to work in partnership with business stakeholders to review, analyze and evaluate business processes, systems and user's needs, and to propose solutions that combine IT technology and business process modifications.

Assists the Director, IS with the creation and management of overall departmental budget including quarterly forecasting.

Key resource for architecting and ensuring that the custom application portfolio appropriately respects authentication and authorization to provide security related to Personal Information, PCI, and confidential information.

Establishes the frameworks and patterns followed by the development team to create solutions. Ultimately responsible for overall system design and security of all components of the application portfolio. Backstops all technical problems and steps in to assist when technical issues prevent the team from making progress. Serves as an expert and architect.

Defines system data boundaries and provides senior developers with appropriate integration and data access strategies. Defines roles for appropriate data access.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
The successful applicant will possess the following:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering is required.

7-10+ years of experience related to the technical development of enterprise solutions.

5+ years management experience or equivalent experience supervising staff, teams, or projects.

Leadership and management training is preferred.
-
Microsoft certification in web and cloud technology is preferred.
-
Experience working within a Governance process and managing account relationships.
-
Experience designing, coding, testing and deploying technical web solutions using Microsoft technologies.

Ability to define and implement reports to extract knowledge from data. Ability to use BI tools to allow business partners to access knowledge.

Experience managing infrastructure in an enterprise environment.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $133,000 to $149,000.
