Assists surgical team with the provision of patient care, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Physician in accordance with the hospital standards, policies and procedures
Performs various patient care duties and related non-professional activities necessary in meeting patient’s personal needs and comfort
Assists in the maintenance of a safe, clean and comfortable environment
Works in compliance with the occupational health and safety act
Other related duties as assigned and as per the job description
Order and stock all unit equipment and supplies, restock patient bays.
Clean patient bays, and equipment after use, change out sharp containers when needed.
Clean medication fridge and monitor eye station
Minimum grade 12 or equivalent required
Personal Support Worker Diploma/2 year Program or equivalent required
Current BCLS & First Aide Certificates essential
Previous Hospital/institutional Health Care experience required
Current basic computer skills required
Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated ability to provide a safe level of care to patients & work as an effective member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team
Must be a self-directed individual with well-developed organizational skills
Possess the ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
Must have the physical requirements to complete job duties
A positive attendance and work record is required
Frequent walking, standing, reaching, stooping, gripping, carrying and bending
Frequent lifting up to approx. 17.5 kg
Occasional pushing and pulling up to 18 kg
