A well-established, medium-sized construction company in the Hamilton area is seeking an experienced and professional Health & Safety Manager to join its growing team.

Position Summary
The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for leading, maintaining, and improving the company’s health and safety program across office, shop, and construction site operations.
The successful candidate will be hands-on, organized, professional, and comfortable working directly with management, supervisors, field employees, subcontractors, clients, and third-party safety representatives. This role requires someone who can balance compliance with practical field support and who understands the realities of construction work.
The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation, construction site requirements, documentation, training, inspections, incident investigation, COR/WSIB processes, and safety program improvement. They must have a strong sense of urgency, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to building and maintaining a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, maintain, and continuously improve the company’s Health & Safety program, policies, procedures, forms, and records.
- Support compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, construction regulations, client requirements, and company standards.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, audits, and safety observations.
- Work with managers, supervisors, and field teams to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Respond promptly and professionally to safety concerns, site needs, incidents, documentation requests, and compliance requirements.
- Support incident reporting, investigation, documentation, follow-up, and WSIB-related processes.
- Maintain and improve safety documentation, training records, orientations, toolbox talks, inspection reports, and compliance records.
- Support COR, client prequalification, contractor management, and third-party safety platform requirements.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver health and safety training, orientations, toolbox talks, and refresher programs.
- Prepare and present safety information clearly to employees, supervisors, management, clients, and subcontractors.
- Review site-specific safety plans, JHAs, FLRAs, safe work procedures, and project safety documentation.
- Identify gaps in the safety program and recommend practical improvements.
- Promote a proactive, practical, professional, and positive safety culture across the organization.
- Monitor legislative and industry changes and recommend updates to company practices where required.
- Work collaboratively with senior leadership to strengthen safety systems as the company continues to grow.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of health and safety experience, preferably in construction, industrial, mechanical, sheet metal, HVAC, or multi-trade environments.
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario construction health and safety legislation and regulations.
- NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, JHSC certification, or related health and safety training is strongly preferred.
- Experience with COR, WSIB, client safety portals, contractor prequalification platforms, inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
- Strong communication, presentation, documentation, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field employees, supervisors, management, clients, subcontractors, and external safety representatives.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to respond quickly and professionally to safety matters.
- Demonstrated ability to identify gaps, recommend improvements, and support continuous improvement across health and safety systems.
- Ability to build credibility with field teams while maintaining accountability and compliance expectations.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to job sites as required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable maintaining digital records and safety documentation.

Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
