Currently Baffinland is looking for an accomplished Welder to join their team on the Mary River Project. This position reports to the Shiploading Supervisor.

This is a permanent position based at site with a 2 week Fly-In, Fly-Out rotation.

Main Accountabilities

Develop basic templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Determine required equipment and welding method to complete assignments, applying basic knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
Ignite torch and adjust valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
Analyze basic engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications on basic assignments, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
Inspect gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
Remove rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Heat, form, and dress metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
Main Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; must be a provincial registered apprentice, and 3 years’ related experience.
Certified Welder in GMAW 3G minimum on 3/8’’ plate and FCAW (3G) on 1” plate.
Prior pipe fitting and welding experience required. Additional welding certifications preferred.
Advanced knowledge of blueprints, shop mathematics and weld symbols are required.
Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
Ability to communicate effectively with others using both verbal and written.
Ability to take care of the customers’ needs while following company procedures.
Ability to pay attention to details of a project or task.
Basic computer navigation and utilization skills required.
