Our growing Etobicoke client who specializes in Custom Wood work is looking for a Working Team Lead to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years related experience and a minimum of 2 years supervisory. The following is the responsibilities:
Position Summary
The Working Lead Hand is responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the Door Manufacturing team while remaining actively involved on the production floor. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will work alongside the team, ensuring production goals, quality standards, safety expectations, and customer commitments are achieved.
This role is ideal for someone who leads by example, enjoys mentoring others, embraces new manufacturing technology, and takes pride in building a high-performing team.
Approximately 80-90% of your time will be spent on the production floor, supporting employees, solving problems, and driving results.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and motivate a team of production employees.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Train and mentor new and existing employees on equipment, processes, and quality standards.
- Ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures, and manufacturing standards.
- Lead by example through a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to help wherever needed.
- Assist management with employee development and performance coaching.
Production & Operations
- Work alongside production employees throughout the shift.
- Coordinate daily workflow to ensure production schedules are achieved.
- Monitor labour allocation and move solutions before they impact customer deliveries.
- Ensure manufacturing drawings, work orders, BOMs, and production instructions are followed accurately.
- Assist with complex manufacturing operations and problem-solving on the floor.
- Support daily production meetings and communicate progress throughout the shift.
Technology & Equipment Leadership
The client has made significant investments in modern manufacturing technology. The Working Lead hand will play a key role in maximizing the performance of this equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop an expert understanding of CNC routers, CNC machining centers, wide belt sanders, edge sanders, assembly equipment, and other automated woodworking machinery.
- Support machine setup, changeovers, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Work closely with Engineering and Maintenance to reduce downtime and improve equipment performance.
- Help implement new manufacturing technologies and production improvements.
- Train operators on safe and efficient equipment operation.
- Promote preventative maintenance by ensuring machines are properly cleaned, inspected, and maintained.
- Recommend improvements to tooling, machining methods, programming, and workflow to improve quality and productivity.
- Stay current with advancements in CNC technology, automation, and woodworking manufacturing.
Quality
- Ensure every door meets quality standards before advancing to the next operation.
- Promote a “quality at the source” mindset throughout the department.
- Identify defects early to minimize waste and rework.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure production documentation and specifications are followed accurately.
Safety
- Lead by example in all aspects of workplace safety.
- Ensure proper PPE is used at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions immediately.
- Report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns promptly.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
- Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Reduce waste, improve workflow, and streamline production processes.
- Encourage employee suggestions and participate in continuous improvement projects.
ERP & Production Systems
- Ensure employees are accurately clocked into jobs.
- Verify labour is recorded correctly within the ERP system.
- Ensure production jobs are completed and closed properly.
- Report discrepancies between production and work orders.
- Support accurate production reporting and scheduling.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in woodworking, cabinet manufacturing, millwork, or custom door manufacturing.
- Previous experience as a Lead Hand, Team Lead, Supervisor or Senior Operator.
- Strong understanding of woodworking equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Experience reading manufacturing drawings and specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining exceptional quality.
- Comfortable using computers and manufacturing software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating CNC routers or CNC machining centres.
- Experience with automated sanding equipment and modern woodworking machinery.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Epicor or similar manufacturing software.
- Forklift certificate is considered an asset.
Hours 7am-4pm
Salary- 85K-95K
