WJS Canada is currently looking for a number of individuals to join our Mains team in Nanaimo, as Casual / On-Call Residence Workers (including Awake Residential Night Worker scheduling).

The Program:

Main’s Program is designed to accommodate youth that have experienced a history of failure in other programs and group homes in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Our services support youth recovering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and overcoming other adversity by providing them with housing and trauma-based guidance.

We accommodate and support traumatized youth in comfortable and welcoming facilities with twenty four hour staffing. Paired housemates share common areas but each child has his or her own bedroom. We offer a safe environment in a residential and friendly neighbourhood. An open door policy encourages a wandering youth to return at any time.

The Position:

The Casual Residence Worker including Overnight Awake scheduling (CRW) is part of a dynamic care-giver team and is responsible for assisting our person served (PS) to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Ensures physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs are met. The CRW assist PS to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Provides behavioural support and supervision in the program and community, implements and monitors individual program plans through observation and accurate reporting, and participates in operating and maintain the program. This position requires union membership with BCGEU.


This position will work a variety of shifts that include weekdays, weekends and evening shifts that could include (but not limited to) scheduling of 0800-1600, 1600-2400, 0000-0800, 0600-1400, 0700-1500, 1400-2200, 1500-2300 and 2300-0700.

As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • Grade 12 education plus certificate or equivalent experience in related human/social service field
  • Other combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Preference given to those with one year experience operating a licensed home, trauma informed practice, ABA
  • Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 (or ability to obtain within the probation period)
  • Ability to use common computer applications required (training provided)
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract and reliable transportation.
