Opportunity
The Plant Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the asphalt plant; blending aggregate, oil, and other material together within the specifications set out by the project contract. The Plant Operator is also responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of the plant team and sub-contractors on site. The ideal candidate is flexible, can work well under pressure, has excellent communication and leadership skills, and possesses knowledge of the paving industry and asphalt production.
Qualifications
› Class 5 driver’s license – 1A is an asset
› First Aid & CPR
› HJR Asphalt Power Mobile Equipment Operator Certificate
› Experience with asphalt is preferred
› Mechanical background is an asset
› Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
› Excellent organizational skills, planning, and attention to detail
› Experience managing a crew
Duties & Responsibilities
› Promote the vision, mission, and core values of HJR
› Review and understand the project contracts and expectations
› Familiar with mix designs and specifications as set out by the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure
› Communicate regularly with the Project Manager, Paving Foreman, and management team
› Assist in maintaining the plant equipment by communicating needs to the Operations Support Manager
› Communicate effectively with consultants, health & safety auditors and Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure staff as needed
› Work with the Quality Control Department to ensure a quality mix is produced
› Support employees and provide them with resources they need to effectively and safely perform the tasks
› Effectively provide constructive feedback and implement disciplinary actions to employees as necessary
› Direct and organize subcontractors on site
› Responsible for the start-up and calibration of hot mix asphalt plant
› Organize and assist in the setting up and tear down of asphalt plant
› Plan and organize oil and lime deliveries
› Perform manual labour when necessary and operate heavy equipment as needed (loader, skid steer etc.)
› Promote the company safety program and effectively contribute to the company safety culture
o Communicate regularly with the Company Safety Officer to ensure the safety program meets the needs of onsite operations
o Hold daily toolbox meetings
o Perform hazard inspections and assessments of the jobsite before the work begins and whenever there are changes to location or situation
o Ensure employees are using safe work practices and procedures
o Implement corrective actions in a timely manner and record the outcome in the daily toolbox meeting

› $50/day for meals
