Overview
We are seeking a friendly and efficient Grocery Clerk/Cashier to join our retail team. This role involves providing excellent customer service, managing transactions accurately, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be detail-oriented, and have a passion for helping customers have a positive shopping experience. Bilingual abilities and experience with retail sales or merchandising are considered valuable assets. This position offers an opportunity to develop skills in sales, cashiering, and customer service within a dynamic retail setting.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and assist them with their shopping needs
- Operate POS systems efficiently for checkout transactions, including cash handling and card payments
- Scan items accurately, apply discounts when applicable, and ensure proper bagging of groceries
- Maintain knowledge of store products to assist with product demos and upselling opportunities
- Restock shelves and organize merchandise to ensure a tidy shopping environment
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly
- Uphold store policies on safety, cleanliness, and organization standards
- Manage time effectively during busy periods to minimize wait times for customers
- Use communication skills to inform customers about promotions or new products
- Slice meat in the Deli (training is provided)
Requirements
- Previous experience in retail sales, cashiering, or merchandising is preferred but not required; training will be provided
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish) are a plus
- Basic math skills for handling cash transactions accurately
- Familiarity with POS systems and cash handling procedures
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanor
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Good organizational skills to manage product displays and stock levels
- Time management skills to prioritize tasks during peak hours
- Knowledge of phone etiquette for assisting customers over the phone when needed
