The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
Department / Research Program: Neonatology
The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and executing communication strategies and producing high-quality multimedia content to support the project’s objectives. This role works independently to manage communication initiatives across print and digital platforms, ensuring consistency, creativity, and alignment with organizational priorities.
The Smart Hospital Project, located at the Montreal Children's Hospital, seeks to revolutionize neonatal care through the power of innovative wireless technology, cutting-edge "smart dashboards," and advanced machine learning tools, all while maintaining a family-centered approach.
General Duties
Communications:
- Develop and implement communication strategies aligned with project goals,
- Plan and manage content calendars for digital and print communications,
- Create and distribute an internal newsletter (every 4 months),
Content Creation & Multimedia Production
- Produce, shoot and edit high-quality photo and video content,
- Design graphic materials for print and digital platforms (e.g., logos, posters, promotional assets, etc.),
- Create communication materials for conferences and events,
- Develop presentation templates (PowerPoint, posters) for research and conference use.
Social Media & Digital Communications
- Manage and grow the project’s social media presence across platforms,
- Develop campaigns to increase engagement and visibility,
- Create, schedule, and publish content aligned with strategic objectives,
- Monitor trends and adapt content accordingly.
Website Management
- Maintain and update website content, including text, images, and multimedia,
- Ensure usability, accessibility, and alignment with branding standards,
- Apply basic SEO best practices to improve visibility.
Brand Management
- Ensure consistency of brand identity across all communication materials and platforms.
Vendor & Production Management
- Coordinate with external vendors for printing and production,
- Manage timelines, proofs, and quality control of printed materials.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track and analyze performance metrics across social media, website, and campaigns,
- Generate reports and provide insights to improve communications strategies,
- Use analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, platform insights) to measure impact.

Education / Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study: Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Media Studies, Public Relations, or related field
Other education considered an asset for this position: Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
Work Experience: 1 to 3 years, with a portfolio to present.
Required Skills
- This position requires an advanced knowledge of written French.
- An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.
Technical:
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Proficiency in Davinci Resolve or Premiere Pro, After Effects is an asset
- Experience with website content management systems (e.g., Framer)
- Photography and videography skills, including editing
- Knowledge of social media platforms and management tools
- Familiarity with basic HTML/CSS and digital best practices (asset)
- Experience using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media insights) (asset)
Other:
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities ,
- High attention to detail and commitment to brand consistency,
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Work Site: 2155 Guy Street
