Summary:
This position carries out repairs on both power and sail vessels, including modifications, re-furbishing and upgrading; performs mechanical repairs on steering, propulsion, cooling and engine systems; troubleshoots and assesses electrical vessel components and systems, modifies and / or installs plumbing systems
Duties and Responsibilities :
Inspect boats and decide on the type of work that needs to be done and provide an accurate estimate on time and materials required.
Review work orders/timelines with the service writer and other management to ensure projects are completed in a time required.
Compile parts lists for the completion of the work.
Order parts or provide appropriate staff member with all information (part numbers, brand name, pictures time frame required etc.) required to complete a project.
Work efficiently and professionally to meet deadlines and performance goals while maintaining a positive attitude with minimal supervision.
Repair and maintain boats and similar vessels in marine service facility: Examines repair or installation orders, drawings, and vessel, utilizing knowledge based on experience to determine extent of repairs required or modifications necessary for installation of equipment, accessories, and hardware.
Consult with supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair or installation.
Coordinate with Yard Manager or other staff for the movement of vessels required for repairs.
Test engines, transmissions, rigging, propellers, navigational, and related systems to diagnose malfunctions, using various measuring instruments.
Install and test steering gear, sanitation and refrigeration systems, electrical systems and accessories, hardware, trim, and related components, following manufacturer's instructions and drawings.
Work with management to quote work and the project management of larger refit projects
Assist with maintenance of Marina Yard Equipment as needed. Coordinate with Yard Manager for those repairs and maintenance.
Job requirements:
MST / Boatbuilder / MMT Certification or related trades certification with 5 years experience
Strong troubleshooting skills
You must be able to work independently
Repairs can take place in a variety of settings – indoors, outdoors, offsite, small spaces, or on the water
Must have your own tools
Must have reliable transportation to and from work – not on a bus route
Wages & Benefits:
$30 - $45 per hour depending on skill and productivity
