General Accountability:
Under the direction of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, the 2nd Assistant contributes to the overall positive appearance and functionality of the golf course by performing general repairs and maintenance to the golf course. The 2nd Assistant is expected to monitor daily tasks, safety practices, and ensure work standards are being met. The 2nd Assistant is a leadership role and is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times and set a good example for all other staff to follow.
Main Responsibilities
Perform daily maintenance tasks as required
Monitor course conditions and work standards; provide feedback to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent daily
Participate in the operation and maintenance of the irrigation system
Participate in the application of granular and liquid fertilizers and pesticides
Perform all cultural practices – aerating, topdressing, overseeding etc.
Perform tasks related to tree work – chipping, cutting , stump grinding etc.
Take on a lead role in golf course improvement projects
Assist in the training and development of equipment operators, instilling safety as a top priority
Train and educate staff in all operational tasks, ensuring maintenance standards are met
Assist in the daily planning and supervision of staff
Monitor safety practice in all areas of the golf course, ensuring staff are following Quilchena’s safety standards – immediately take action to correct any unsafe work practices and report to the Superintendent
Maintain a professional appearance
In the absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, the 2nd Assistant shall assume a lead supervisory role for the completion of the daily workload
Perform all other related duties as directed by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
Education, Experience, Expectations:
Grade 12 education
Valid driver’s license
Skilled equipment operator with experience operating a wide range of golf course equipment
Experience training staff on golf course equipment and tasks
Experience operating and maintaining an irrigation system
Experience applying granular and liquid fertilizers and pesticides
Pesticide Applicator License
Strong leadership qualities and professionalism
5 years of Turf Care maintenance experience
Graduation from a recognized Turf Maintenance program, or working towards finishing a Turf Maintenance program
Pay: $35.00 per hour
