Job Summary:
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing and communication strategies that enhance the visibility and mission of the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) and the Last Defence Lounge (LDL).
This role is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio including publications, media relations, digital and print marketing, and event promotion. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator ensures that all communications are aligned with the GSA's strategic goals and reflect the brand's tone and identity.
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and implement an integrated marketing and communications plan that supports the GSA’s strategic goals.
· Collaborate with the Executive Director and the LDL General Manager to create and execute marketing plans for GSA and LDL programs and events.
· Design and produce marketing collateral, including digital and print materials, for GSA and LDL initiatives.
· Manage content creation and scheduling for blogs, social media, websites, and newsletters.
· Oversee the weekly compilation and distribution of GSA newsletters.
· Maintain and update multimedia content on the GSA and LDL websites, ensuring functionality and user experience.
· Update and manage printed promotional materials on campus and in the LDL.
· Administer and analyze surveys, including the GSA Annual Survey.
· Compile and publish annual and special reports as requested.
· Monitor and manage the marketing budgets for GSA and LDL, ensuring cost-effective strategies.
· Procure and maintain a stock of promotional items that meet GSA's marketing needs.
· Support key GSA events such as orientation for new graduate students and GSA elections.
· Support and refine style guide, ensuring consistency in tone, messaging, and visual identity across all GSA and LDL communications.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with key university stakeholders to enhance communication efforts.
· Report on marketing and communications data and insights to the Executive Director on a semesterly basis.
· Ensure that all communications comply with GSA policies and procedures.
· Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on developing and implementing advocacy and crisis communication strategies.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· A bachelor’s degree prefered in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field from an accredited institution.
· 3-5 years of relevant experience in marketing and communications.
· Strong knowledge of marketing, communication, and social media strategies.
· Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Premiere) and/or Canva.
· Skilled in Office Suite and website platforms (WordPress, Wix).
· Experience using Hootsuite or similar social media management tools.
· Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills across various media.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines.
· Proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
· Legal authorization to work in Canada as a citizen, permanent resident, or holding a valid work permit.

The Last Defence Lounge (LDL) is a fully licensed restaurant operated by the GSA and located on the third floor of MacEwan Student Centre (MSC 350). The LDL welcomes the entire University of Calgary community and their guests.
