The incumbent of this position will be responsible for planning, organizing and managing all resources and activities to ensure the secure and effective operation of IT infrastructure. This comprises development, upgrading, support and optimization in key functional areas, including management of telecommunications infrastructure such as switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, cabinets and private branch exchange (PBX) systems, as well as management of various telecommunications service providers.
Oversee the operation and performance of all telecommunications infrastructure
Sit on the IT change advisory committee and ensure that changes made to technology are transparent and reversible if impact is created; ensure teams make changes according to approved plans
Ensure infrastructure integrity and proper performance of IT environments, and participate in improving the quality of the infrastructure and environments
Ensure that operations evolve with industry best practices (ITIL, MOF, etc.)
Continuously improve all methods and tools relating to the use of telecommunications, data centres and voice systems
Work with the Supply Management team to ensure adequate supplies for the operation of infrastructure
Oversee the delivery of infrastructure and operation services by all IT service providers
Establish the operational framework and ensure the resulting activities are completed
Handle the infrastructure and operations component of level 3 service requests, in collaboration with the user service desk
In the event of a major incident, activate the crisis unit and manage the technical component
Ensure operational recovery and continuity and serve as a designated leader in a disaster
Monitor new developments and industry best practices in the infrastructure and operations market and determine their implications for the company
Set and optimize the operations budget
- Due to the nature of the position and extended hours of operation, the incumbent must be flexible and be available when necessary after normal work hours or on weekends.
Oversee recruitment, supervision, performance management, professional development and assessment for their team
Work closely with the various IT teams and ensure their team’s contribution to IT projects
Manage their team’s day‑to‑day tasks and activities
Manage physical and financial resources
Revise performance indicators and follow up on the resulting action plans
Work with their immediate supervisor to define and update the department’s operational directives, objectives and priorities
Work with their immediate supervisor and coworkers to develop IT business plans
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field
Master’s degree considered an asset
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the IT industry, with 4–5 years in IT operations and 4–5 years in IT department management or leadership (people management)
Excellent knowledge of technology infrastructure (telecommunications; proficiency in Cisco technology considered an asset) and data centres
Strong understanding of industry best practices, particularly the ITIL and PMI standards
Good knowledge of applicable IT laws and regulations
