We are recruiting a Clinical Research Study Assistant to aid in the day-to-day operations of our research program. The Toronto Western Hospital MSNICU research group is made up of scientists, investigators, and quality improvement researchers. Our specific site-specific research interests would include neuro-ventilation, neuro-critical care (e.g., subarachnoid hemorrhage care protocols); neuroprecision (e.g., integrative neurophysiology monitoring); organ donation; transport medicine; long-term outcomes both before and after an episode of critical illness; and sleep. In addition, we support trials relating to mechanical ventilation in acute respiratory failure as well as other general critical care studies. We are members and strong supporters of national research collaboratives such as the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group and Canadian Sepsis Network, as well as Neuro-Intensive Care Networks. Our group mission is to foster innovative, interprofessional, high impact translational and clinical research across the spectrum of caring for critically ill patients. The ideal candidate for this position will have training and/or experience in neuropsychology, neuroscience, or computer science.
Work closely with investigators and other healthcare professionals at the University Health Network to identify potential study participants admitted to the MSNICU
Discuss the study with potential participants so they can make an informed decision about whether to participate
Coordinate intervention administration to enrolled participants (e.g., medication delivery)
Organize and maintain databases related to different studies/trials
Perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of the research data
Potentially perform statistical analysis
Contribute to the preparation of scientific presentations and manuscripts
Post-secondary training in a related discipline such as neuroscience, psychology, or computer science
Three (3) to six (6) months of related experience
Excellent interpersonal skills, and particularly the ability to work well with others
Previous experience working in a research setting would be asset
Previous training and/or experience in scientific research methods and statistics
Programming experience in R, STATA, Matlab, or other would be an asset
Excellent problem-solving skills and initiative
Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
