About the Clients:
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable caregiver to support a couple in their seventies living in a rural home near Coldwater, Ontario. Both clients are currently managing temporary health challenges and need assistance with daily tasks while they work toward recovery.
The husband is recovering from a below-knee amputation and is currently using crutches to offload a healing wound. His mobility is limited, and he requires help with outdoor tasks like taking out garbage and walking their 0.8-kilometer driveway for prescribed exercise on flat surfaces.
The wife is managing lymphedema in her leg following treatment for lymphoma and a brain tumor removal that causes occasional vertigo. She needs support with a prescribed massage therapy routine that she can demonstrate, as well as assistance with light housekeeping, meal preparation, and errands. Both clients are active, fun-loving individuals who spend six months of the year in Florida and are eager to regain their independence.
The home includes a friendly 5-pound Yorkie who loves visitors. The couple has multiple vehicles available for caregiver use during shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with light housekeeping including vacuuming, dusting, and laundry
- Support with meal preparation and planning
- Accompany clients on grocery shopping trips to Coldwater (20 minutes away)
- Provide transportation to medical appointments at RVH lymphedema clinic
- Help with medication management and reminders
- Assist with prescribed lymphedema massage therapy routine (training provided by client)
- Support husband with supervised walking exercises along the driveway
- Retrieve mail and manage package deliveries
- Take out garbage and recycling
- Provide companionship and emotional support
What We're Looking For:
- Accredited PSW or DSW with formal college training
- Calm, patient demeanor with positive energy
- Reliable and consistent with strong communication skills
- Takes initiative and respects client independence
- Comfortable working in a rural setting
- Experience with mobility support and post-surgical care preferred
- Comfortable with pets
- English speaking
- Valid driver's license (vehicles provided)
Schedule:
Two visits per week, approximately 4 hours per shift (8 hours total weekly). Flexible scheduling available. This is anticipated to be needed for 1-2 months during the recovery period.
