The Chef is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing nutritious food services that support client healing and recovery in a residential treatment environment. This role integrates Indigenous food knowledge, trauma-informed nutrition practices, and FNHA wellness principles to support physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Key Responsibilities:
Nutrition Program & Meal Service:
- Lead the development and implementation of a nutrition program supporting recovery, stabilization, and wholistic wellness.
- Design and oversee daily menus, snacks, and special dietary needs that are nutritionally balanced and culturally grounded.
- Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and medical or cultural requirements.
Kitchen Staff Supervision & Cultural Support:
- Supervise and schedule kitchen staff; delegate daily tasks and provide direction on meal preparation and service standards.
- Train and orient kitchen staff on food safety protocols, cultural food practices, and trauma-informed dining approaches.
- Monitor kitchen staff performance; participate in hiring and onboarding of kitchen team members.
- Incorporate traditional Indigenous foods and teachings into programming; support food-based learning such as cooking skills and traditional food preparation.
- Collaborate with Cultural Advisors, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and program staff to support a respectful dining environment.
Food Safety, Budgeting & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with FoodSafe, public health regulations, and FNHA program expectations.
- Support food budgeting, purchasing, and inventory management; prioritize local and Indigenous vendors where possible.
Key Requirements:
- Diploma or training in Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Food Services, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- FoodSafe Level 1 required; First Aid and CPR preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Knowledge of nutrition related to mental health and addiction recovery, and/or Indigenous food systems and traditional foods, is an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or Indigenous-led organizations is a strong asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Pay: $77,468.00-$98,422.00 per year
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Creston, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
