GHCS requires a Coordinator for the Community Wellness Program. The Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the Better at Home Program and the Home Hospice Galiano Program, staffed by volunteers. This is a 24-28 hour per week position, based out of the Galiano Health Care Centre. This position involves providing vital support services, organizing health-related community education, and acting as a resource for seniors, healthcare professionals, and community members.
Education/Qualifications
Strong knowledge of issues facing seniors and challenges related to elder wellness
Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of community resources and off island and/or online resources for seniors
Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., social services, teaching, leadership) or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and facilitation skills
Ability to work independently, with strong time management skills and organizational skills
Demonstrate strong collaborative skills with a range of different individuals
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external contacts
Proven skills to partner with other community organizations to develop and/or offer programs for seniors, their families and caregivers
Ability to represent the Galiano Health Care Society with professionalism and competence
Ability to manage interpersonal conflicts – clients/service providers/families and others; set boundaries and say no when appropriate; take disciplinary measures when needed
Able to maintain strict confidentiality, essential in a small community
Strong computer skills
A good sense of humour really helps.
What we need:
Your duties & responsibilities will include:
Management of all aspects of the Home Hospice Galiano program, including Advance Care Planning workshops. The Better at Home Galiano program coordinator is responsible for all aspects of client services, relationships with clients and Better at Home Service Providers (employees). The Community Connector, a new role, funded for a year trial period, by the United Way of BC. Currently allocated funds for one day a week, this position is intended to work closely with the health care professionals connecting seniors with local and off island resources.

Pay: $26.00-$30.00 per hour
