After-Hours Crisis Responder
(On-call casual, holidays, evenings, weekends)
TITLE: After-Hours Crisis Responder
POSITION SUMMARY
The After-Hours Crisis Responder will provide immediate front line crisis support. This includes short-term emotional support, practical assistance and providing information and referrals to victims of crime, tragic circumstances, and disaster. The service is provided in person or by telephone.
In the aftermath of trauma, Crisis Responders help victims to understand the physical and emotional impact of the crisis reaction. They listen without judgment, validate feelings and offer appropriate options and choices.
Crisis Responders may:
· Assist police, fire and ambulance at the scene of a crime or tragedy
· Provide emotional support to someone whose family member has been hurt or killed in an accident
· Help a victim navigate supports and resources
· Discuss safety planning with a victim of abuse
· Provide a follow up at the request of police or emergency services to see how someone is coping following a traumatic event.
BENCHMARK HIRING CRITERIA
· Diploma in related human / social service field or equivalent and 1 year of directly related experience
· Crisis intervention skills. Knowledge of community supports for crime related and tragic circumstance occurrences
· Ability to work effectively in crisis situations
· Demonstrate effective verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills
· Excellent advocacy skills
· Ability to interact with diverse groups of people
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all issues surrounding calls for service
· Access to a vehicle
