About the Role:
The Corus Entertainment/Global News technical team is seeking a candidate for the full-time Supervisor, Technical Services position based at Global Calgary, reporting to the Manager, News Technology. Applicants will have proven leadership skills and an ability to work well with all customers of the technical department.   • Site accountabilities – Calgary Production Centre, Global Lethbridge news technology, Calgary and Lethbridge transmitter and microwave sites.
  • Provide technical support for the design and implementation of systems relating to transmitter sites, microwave receive sites, news gathering, news production, other commercial production/graphic art and technology infrastructure.
  • Provide ongoing Tier 1 technical support of station systems relating to transmitter sites, microwave receive sites, news gathering news production, other commercial production/graphic art and technology infrastructure.
  • Escalate faults and issues as required to the appropriate departments or vendors.
  • Maintain business and News Technology operations standards and best practices.
  • Schedule resources to ensure successful timely deployment and maintenance of broadcast technology systems.
  • Establish and maintain work place safety for local and remote sites.
  • Implement and support Manager, News Technology initiatives and mandates.
  • Report, feedback and collaborate with the Manager, News Technology.
  • Working knowledge of system technical drawings and electrical line drawings
  • Work with news, news operations and production personnel to provide solutions to technical incidents in a timely manner. Report to leaders, faults and resolutions after incidents.
  • Work with various Technology groups to maintain standards and best practices for systems relating to production, technology infrastructure, content delivery and workflows.
  • Work with others as required to provide a cohesive and collaborative work environment.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers for purchasing or services as required and track assets.
  • Work with various departments to schedule resources to ensure successful, timely deployment and maintenance of broadcast technology systems.
  • Perform various other duties as required, including covering shifts or vacation relief.
  • Be the first line of communication for the technical team under your supervision.
  • Work closely with management to plan and track operational and capital costs. To assist in forecasting and maintaining balanced OPEX and CAPEX budgets.

  • High degree of technical knowledge of broadcast television systems associated with conventional broadcast television.
  • In depth knowledge of computer networking as it pertains to television broadcast equipment.

  • Valid driver’s license (abstract may be required).
  • Knowledge of CAD drawing programs.
  • General knowledge of following accounting budget sheets and reports.
