Position Summary:
The Disability Management Consultant is a member of the Employee Health Safety and Wellness team and is responsible for the proactive and expert management of STD and LTD claims. The DMC collaborates with managers and other key stakeholders in disability prevention, early intervention and return to work support.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for initiating, engaging and maintaining contact with the injured/absent employees on a regular basis
Provide support to employee’s manager/supervisor and HR regarding case management, disability, accommodation and the Attendance Awareness and Support Program
Able to effectively and collaboratively resolve conflict
Interprets and educate managers on a variety of regulatory and compliance requirements to ensure that case management practices are applied in accordance with legislation, regulation and THP policies
Make referrals to appropriate resource (such as EAP provider, Occupational Health physician Physiotherapy or ergonomic consultant) as required
Effectively manage a fluctuating case load
Collaborate and liaise with other members of Employee Health Safety and Wellness team
Collaborate with the employee, manager, union, human resources to support a large variety of Healthy Workplace programs and initiatives
Act as liaison, mentor and coach regarding disability claims to all internal and external partners
Develop effective and sustainable return to work plans
In collaboration with all managers and human resources business partners, regularly monitor and adjust the progress of all return to work cases to resolve emerging issues
Develop effective relations to collaborate with the employee, human resources, management, union and relevant health care professionals to implement return to work and /or modified work programs and support a variety of prevention and Healthy Workplace programs and initiatives
Provide education and training to managers and staff regarding the disability case management processes
Maintain and respect confidential information; objectively and accurately document case history, strategy and case management plan
Conduct follow up attendance counselling meetings with employees and create individualized plans to promote and support wellness and address attendance issues
Accountable for regularly gathering, maintaining and reporting statistics regarding for STD and LTD , and be able to identify proactively identify trends
Must be able to work at all sites
Other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications:
Completion of Disability Management certification preferred
At least 5 years experience in disability management
Post-secondary degree in the health sector, with a registered professional designation within the disability management or professional health sector
Demonstrated expertise and experience with return to work, modified work, attendance and accommodation programs in a large and diverse organizational environment
Excellent interpersonal skills required
Working knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Excellent communication, organization and presentation skills
Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Parklane) able to create and generate reports as required
Parklane experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a fast-paced team environment.
Sound knowledge of the principles prevention, Attendance Awareness and Support Programs
Positive attendance and work record essential
Superior assessment and problem solving skills
Knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act is an asset
