As a talented and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and optimization of mechanical components and systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of projects from concept to production. This position requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, creativity, attention to detail, and problem-solving. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of 3D modeling experience using SolidWorks: conceptual design, prototyping, production optimizations, shop drawings, revision maintenance, assembly instructions, etc.
- Create innovative designs for mechanical and electronic instruments to meet project requirements.
- Focus on Design for Manufacturability in product design.
- Perform CAM programming and 3D printing for prototype and production builds.
- Support development projects through creation of CAD designs, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, 3D printing, testing of products, preparing and presenting the reports.
- Validate designs against component and system requirements.
- Support of product evaluation tests for environmental conditions such as shock, vibration, impact, IPXX etc.
- Preparation of documents such as new product concepts, functional specification, test plans, engineering reports, work instructions, etc.
- Source new and replacement parts from vendors, ensuring they meet design specifications and requirements.
- Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Create / Edit Assembly instructions / standard procedures along with test requirements.
- Design jigs/fixtures to aid to assembly process.
- Prototype assembly and evaluation, debugging and troubleshooting, using test equipment when necessary.
- Close collaboration with other departments, component suppliers, fabricators, and contract manufacturing vendors throughout the development process.
- Product support and sustaining activities through the whole lifecycle process of multiple products.
- Analyze prototypes and produced product for deficiencies, defects and potential improvements.
- Take on additional tasks as needed to support the team's objectives and project goals.
Ideal Applicant will possess:
- Degree of Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
- 3-5 years work experience as a Mechanical Engineer / Designer
- Proficient in 3D modeling with SolidWorks
- Strong understanding and hands on experience with rapid prototyping methods / additive manufacturing
- Knowledge of GD&T, BOM structure
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines
- Driven to meet project deadlines and work effectively in ensuring on-time project delivery
- Enjoys solving complex technical problems
- Team player with good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience and understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
- Attention to detail and regard for high engineering and quality standards
- Technical writing skills an asset
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when producing CAD drawings
- Sense of creativity when working on cost/mass reducing development projects
- Time management skills to complete tasks by the required deadlines
- Organizational skills - ability to manage tasks efficiently while working on several different projects
- Versatility and resourcefulness in problem-solving
