Bodwell High School seeks a knowledgeable, organized, and student-centered Soccer Coach to lead and develop its soccer program. The Soccer Coach is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality practices, preparing the team for league and tournament competition, supporting the holistic development of student-athletes, and upholding the standards and values of the school’s athletic program.
The successful candidate will foster skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and school pride while creating a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities: Program Planning and Coaching
- Plan, organize, and lead structured soccer practices that are developmentally appropriate, purposeful, and aligned with team goals.
- Teach and develop technical soccer skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and position-specific play.
- Prepare athletes and teams for league games, exhibition matches, and tournaments.
- Develop game plans, lineups, training progressions, and competitive strategies.
- Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback to support growth and improvement.
- Organize and supervise team tryouts, player selection, and roster management in consultation with the Athletics Department.
Student Development
- Promote sportsmanship, discipline, accountability, teamwork, resilience, and leadership among student-athletes.
- Build positive relationships with students and support their development as learners, teammates, and representatives of the school.
- Encourage balanced participation that reflects both athletic commitment and academic responsibility.
- Help create an inclusive team culture that welcomes students from diverse international and local backgrounds.
Game and Event Responsibilities
- Attend and coach all scheduled practices, games, league fixtures, and tournaments.
- Ensure athletes are prepared for competition, including warm-ups, uniforms, equipment, and match readiness.
- Supervise students before, during, and after games, practices, and team travel.
- Manage team operations on game days, including communication, attendance, and player conduct.
- Report results, relevant updates, and schedule information to the Athletics Department as required.
Administration and Communication
- Communicate clearly and professionally with athletes, parents, school staff, and athletic organizers.
- Support the coordination of transportation, tournament entries, equipment needs, and team logistics in collaboration with the Athletics Department.
- Maintain accurate team records, attendance, schedules, and other required documentation.
- Attend coaches’ meetings, league meetings, and school athletic meetings as required.
- Follow all school procedures related to student supervision, risk management, travel, and event participation.
Safety and Professional Expectations
- Provide a safe and well-supervised athletic environment at all times.
- Ensure that all practices and competitions reflect appropriate safety standards and responsible coaching practices.
- Model professionalism, punctuality, integrity, and respect in all interactions.
- Uphold school policies, league regulations, and expectations for conduct and eligibility.
- Support the mission and values of Bodwell High School through positive representation of the athletics program.
QualificationsRequired
- Previous experience coaching soccer, preferably at the school, club, or youth level.
- Strong knowledge of soccer fundamentals, strategy, skill development, and team management.
- Ability to work effectively with high school students in a school-based athletic setting.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to supervise students responsibly and maintain a positive team culture.
- Commitment to student well-being, inclusion, and educational values.
Preferred
- NCCP coaching certification or willingness to obtain appropriate certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience working in independent schools, secondary schools, or multicultural educational environments.
- Experience with tournament organization, league communication, and school athletics administration.
Time Commitment
- Attend all scheduled practices, games, and tournaments during the soccer season.
- Participate in preseason planning, team selection, and communication with the Athletics Department.
- Be available for occasional evening or weekend competitions and events.
- Complete administrative and communication tasks related to team operations in a timely manner.
Working Relationships
The Soccer Coach works closely with the Athletic Director, Athletics Coordinator, student-athletes, other coaches, school staff, and external league or tournament organizers. The role requires collaboration, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting the broader goals of the Bodwell athletics program.
