Neil Smith Construction Ltd. is seeking an experienced Civil Utility Pipelayer to join our growing team in the Greater Vancouver area.
NSC is a privately held civil construction company specializing in underground utilities, excavation, earthworks, site preparation, and municipal/site servicing projects for commercial, institutional, and public sector clients.
Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Civil Utility Pipelayer with hands-on experience in underground utility construction. The successful candidate will have experience installing sanitary, storm, and watermain systems, manholes, catch basins, and communication conduits while working safely and efficiently in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install sanitary, storm, and watermain piping systems
- Assemble and lay pipe according to project drawings, specifications, and municipal standards
- Install manholes, catch basins, service connections, and related underground infrastructure
- Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and grade information
- Assess trench and ground conditions for safe and accurate pipe installation
- Use laser levels, pipe lasers, locators, and grading equipment
- Perform pipe fitting, alignment, and connection work
- Work closely with equipment operators, gradepersons, and site supervisors
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
- Follow all company safety policies and site procedures
Requirements
- Proven experience as a pipelayer in civil underground utility construction
- Strong knowledge of underground utility systems, pipe materials, fittings, and installation methods
- Experience with sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and watermain installation
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and municipal plans
- Experience using laser levels and grading equipment
- Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and working in trenches
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license considered an asset
