The Red Chris Metallurgy team is now recruiting for a Senior Metallurgist with a competitive base salary between $125,800.00 - $148,000.00 with an additional short term incentive target of 15%. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity.
We are seeking an individual for a Fly-In, Fly-Out opportunity working on a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off rotation.
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Metallurgist is tasked with ensuring that resources, capacity and capability are aligned with set work plans. They provide coaching, mentoring and development to team members to continuously improve their knowledge, skills and relationship interactions.
They provide technical support to the Operations group, while maintaining a safety-awareness, behaviour and cost commitment, consistent with Newmont’s Values.
Assists in providing input on short to medium term (0 to 3-month time horizon) planning regarding people, and technical requirements, while ensuring adherence to the plan and to maximum and sustainable profitability of the business.
Accountabilities
The Senior Metallurgist reports to the Chief Metallurgist and has 4 direct reports. Key to the role is the provision of planning and management of direct reports in execution of routine, and non-routine, daily activities to support the Operations Team. Ensuring the safe, cost-effective treatment of delivered ore tonnes, production of concentrate volumes and quality to the customer in accordance with forecasts.
Safety:

- Participating in site safety initiatives and support these initiatives within the team
- Pro-actively monitoring behaviours in order to maintain a safe work environment
- Taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks (i.e. recognize, analyze, respond to ensure risks are managed in accordance with company requirements)
- Ensuring standard work procedures and safe systems of work are understood, utilized and adhered to at all times, while monitoring for and reporting on non-compliance
- Ensuring personnel are trained to company standards to safely complete work requirements
- Lead safety/pre-start meetings and communicate expectations with a focus of continued improvement of the Health and Safety Management System and addressing concerns.
Leadership:
Demonstrate with the highest professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with Company policy:

- Leads and develops direct reports through mentoring, coaching and training

- Monitor agreed strategies to maximize operational efficiency
- Supports the Chief Metallurgist and able to cover when they are offsite
- Participates and approves risk management processes, e.g. FLHAs, JSEA and CCM

Technical:
- Demonstrate technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems and guiding team to deliver on section goals:
- Monitor and advise parameters for the metallurgical operation of the ore processing plant
- Drives idea generation sessions, implements continuous improvement and ensures project delivery
- Implement work plans that align to strategic plans, i.e. PoaP
- Monitor metallurgical advancements and recommend appropriate selection and
- implementation
- Monitor compliance with Newmont’s Metallurgical accounting standards
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for non-compliance and ensure corrective actions are implemented and monitored
- Perform regular trends analysis to ensure equipment and process health meets the metallurgical requirements
- Coordinates work and matches competency with tasks requirements
- Participate and approves risk management processes, e.g. FLHAs, JSEA and CCM
Planning & Scheduling:
- Provides the short-and medium-term inputs for production forecasting including but not limited to development of the weekly and three-monthly rolling plan
- Develops medium and short-term work plans to prioritize tasks and effectively allocate
- resources
- Deliver on objectives outlined in workplans aligned to the site business planning and PoaP
- Create and coordinate work plans and ensure resources are managed
- Manage workforce to ensure adequate competence across the team is maintained
- Works with the site teams to provide timely information on weekly, monthly and 3-monthly concentrate projections, including review of the trucking scheduled for the purposes of planning shipment forecasts.

About You
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
- BSc or BE in Extractive Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline is required
- Active P.Eng license is an asset
- 7 or more years of relevant industry experience required
- 2 or more years of direct supervisory experience is desired
