Location: We are seeking experienced Bartenders (Casual) for our Vancouver Convention Centre operation.
Sodexo Live! is the Official Supplier of Food and Beverage Services to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility hosts more than 500 events and welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the Province.
Principal Function:
The Bartender is responsible for ensuring positive guest experiences while accurately mixing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The Bartender will follow Sodexo Live! standards to ensure that product is of the highest quality in taste and appearance to satisfy guests and maximize bar revenues.
In addition to preparing and serving drinks per guest specifications, Sodexo Live! standards and all local and provincial guidelines for responsible alcoholic beverage service, the Bartender’s core responsibilities will also include inventory counts, stocking/prepping, cleaning, organizing and setting up mobile bar fronts/backs. In some environments they will also have responsibility for fulfilling beverage orders for fellow servers in a friendly and efficient manner.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Support Food & Beverage Service operations by assisting in executing event servers and functions in accordance with Sodexo Live! standards, guest expectations and specifications as directed by Supervisors and Managers.
- Attend pre-shift meetings and follow instructions from Food & Beverage Supervisors and Managers; Ask questions to ensure clear and complete understanding of event flow, needs and assignments.
- Greet each guest who enters the event space; Be courteous and professional in all interactions; Demonstrate Sodexo Live! and the Vancouver Convention Centre standards for guest service.
- Take care in the handling and storage of all Food & Beverage service hardware, equipment, linens and serving supplies needed for setup mobile bar and event service.
- Set up and maintain an efficiently functioning workstation; Restock mobile bar as needed.
- Fullfill beverage orders to guests and Servers in a prompt and accurate manner based on established menus and event specifications.
- Prepares garnishes for drinks and continually maintains mobile bar station.
- Process customer sales transactions efficiently, accurately and in a friendly manner.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of beverage offerings.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
- Follow all local and provincial guidelines for responsible alcoholic beverage service; Check identification of guests to verify age requirements for consumption of alcohol.
- Take initiative in fulfilling special guest requests and be creative in resolving guest challenges and complaints; Involve a supervisor when previous methods have been unsuccessful.
- Confer with management regarding problems or issues in a timely manner so as not impact service or timing of events.
- Continuously observe surroundings and maintain awareness of all guest activities; Immediately report suspicious, violent or inappropriate behaviour to supervisor or manager.
- Participate in and foster positive team relations with wait staff, fellow bartenders, servers and management.
- Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required from time to time.
- Contribute to goal of 100% customer satisfaction through personal commitment to teamwork and service.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Must be 19 years or older to serve alcohol.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Serving it Right Certificate required.
- Ability to work well independently, in a high stress, and fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and effectively implement written and verbal instructions.
- Proficient English communication skills in order to effectively interact verbally and listen attentively to co-workers and supervisors.
- Technology aptitude for working with POS (Clover).
- Basic knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits and familiarity with standard drink recipes.
- Basic bartending experience (preferred).
- Food Safe Certification (preferred).
Other Requirements:
Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift. Must be able to frequently lift and carry food and other items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally greater. Must be able to go from warm to cold climates (workstation to coolers).
Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
