Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Hydrovac Operator to join our construction and excavation team. The ideal candidate will operate hydrovac trucks and various heavy equipment to perform excavation, potholing, and utility locating tasks safely and efficiently. This role requires mechanical aptitude, experience with heavy machinery, and a strong commitment to safety standards. The Hydrovac Operator will play a vital role in supporting construction projects by providing precise excavation services in challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate hydro vac trucks to perform non-destructive excavation and daylighting of underground utilities
- Safely operate high-pressure water systems and vacuum equipment
- Expose and verify utilities in accordance with locate markings and work orders
- Set up and maintain safe work zones, including traffic control where required
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on equipment
- Communicate with site supervisors, utility locators, and crew members
- Accurately complete daily work reports, logs, and job documentation
- Respond to emergency or after-hours callouts as required
- Comply with all company, safety, and environmental policies
Qualifications & Experience
- Valid AZ or DZ driver’s license in good standing
- ability to drive manual transmission is considered an asset.
- Minimum 1–3 years experience operating hydro vac equipment (preferred)
- Experience working around underground utilities considered an asset
- Knowledge of utility locates, daylighting, and damage prevention practices
- Working at Heights certification
- Ground Disturbance training / certification
- Confined Space, WHMIS, First Aid, and Traffic Control certifications considered assets

- Physically capable of handling hoses, tools, and equipment
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles considered an asset
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, traffic, water, mud, and underground utilities
- Overtime, early mornings, and on-call rotations may be required
