The Cat Shelter Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the cats in the shelter, including a team of cat shelter coordinators. The Cat Shelter Manager reports to the Cat Senior Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruits, trains, and manages team of cat shelter coordinators to monitor the day to day reported observations of EHS shelter cats, as well as schedule/coordinate routine and urgent vet visits for EHS shelter cats
- Provides support and guidance to cat shelter coordinators in relation to the investigation of potential health concerns of EHS shelter cats, and when to seek veterinary care
- Communicates and builds rapport with shift volunteers to gather additional information and address concerns regarding EHS shelter cats as needed
- Communicates directly with partner veterinarians, hospitals and clinics regarding the health of EHS shelter cats, including approval of diagnostics and treatment within approval limit
- Keeps cat senior manager and cat adoption manager apprised of any developments to shelter cat health, and seeks approval for veterinary expenses above approval limit
- Works with cat senior manager to create and implement various animal care protocol and procedures and maintain standards of care for EHS shelter cats
- Communicates directly with shift volunteers to gather information and address concerns regarding EHS shelter cats as needed
- Works with cat transportation and supply manager to ensure food and animal care supplies are stocked at all times, and that transport is arranged for scheduled vet visits
- Manages mingling, out time schedule, and kennel assignment of shelter cats
- Works with intake manager to create room at shelter for new incoming cats
- Oversees cat medical manager to ensure that shelter cats on prescribed medication are receiving their medication at the requisite times
- Provides on call response to shelter cat emergencies on an as needed basis
- Works with cat volunteer manager to ensure shift volunteers are trained and appropriately handling shelter cats, and recording observations in the daily log as needed
- Ensures adherence to Code of Conduct and all EHS policies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Google documents and sheets
- Ability to work independently and also take direction as part of a team
- Affection for animals, concern for their welfare, and personal alignment with EHS policies
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- At least 2 years of management/supervisory experience (paid or volunteer)
- Familiarity with cats, knowledge of cat care and behaviour
- Experience with handling cats, including fearful ones (ie. getting them into carriers, providing nail trims, etc)

- Driver’s license and access to vehicle
Location: 50% remote; 50% in shelter
Time Commitment: Approximately 8-10 hours/week
