The Coordinator, Online Programs coordinates and oversees the operation of online platforms and virtual programs, and supports technology enhanced education programs. In addition, this position works with the online learning team in the development and implementation of new and innovative social learning programs. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with students in person and in virtual/online classroom settings.


Oversees education programs at the Ocean Wise by:
Working with the online learning team in the development and implementation of new programs and activities;
Assisting with the promotion and marketing of online learning and other education initiatives;
Continually evaluating programs to ensure that we are delivering a professional and valuable program to our visitors; instituting changes to programs in collaboration with the education team;
Maintaining positive continuing working relationships with clients (teachers and schools) attending programs to ensure future bookings;
Communicating effectively with the Manager, Online Learning and other departments in a timely fashion to ensure adequate supplies are available for programs;
Maintains a good working knowledge of marine animals, ecosystems, and issues;
Experience and confidence in working with animals.
Maintains and manages the use of technical equipment including but not limited to video conferencing tools, documents and additional media.

Coordinates and oversees technology-enhanced education programs at Ocean Wise by:

Delivering professional development workshops for teachers;
Designing customized programs for a variety of groups including home schools, Youth-Serving Agencies, and International Conservation Groups;
Preparing materials for advertising and scheduling programs;
Liaising with Ocean Wise partners and clients while managing program bookings.

Manages educators by:
Recruiting, scheduling and providing technical support for internal and external presenters.
Assisting with the design and implementation of technical training programs for all education staff.
Consciously desires to improve the Ocean Wise and its processes by:

Promptly aiding in Emergency protocol;
Maintaining organizational safety standards;
Continually improving our impact on the environment and greening of operations through support of EMS protocols;
Performs additional duties as required.


Education and Experience

Bachelors’ Degree in Science, Education, Conservation, or relevant field;
Knowledge of marine biology, issues, and research;
A minimum of 2 years teaching/interpretation experience and experience with school-aged children/youth;
Experience delivering technology-enhanced educational programs for school-aged students;
Online development experience;
Public speaking skills and experience working with groups of all sizes;
BC Teaching Certificate preferred.

Strong commitment to the environment and education;
Able to communicate effectively with audiences of all ages and learning abilities;
Experience using WebEx, CISCO and other communication technology;
Strong communication and public speaking skills;
Knowledge of building and maintaining online platforms or web design;
Ability and maturity to deal with a wide variety of ages and personalities;
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
Strong customer service skills.
Animal husbandry experience an asset;
Active demonstration of Ocean Wise’s values and mission;
Experience working in a non-profit organization an asset;
Work Conditions

The incumbent will work in a shared office environment with the usual ergonomic risks;
The position is primarily non-physical;
Handling live marine invertebrates and other program animals; exposure to live or dead animals may result in bites, stings, punctures, and cuts;
Available to work Monday through Friday. Shift times may vary based on bookings
