Our mission is to provide high-quality, family-centered, and community-based residential and respite care for individuals with complex care needs. Safehaven serves individuals with disabilities and their families through respite and residential programs at our Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Woodbridge, and Aurora facilities, as well as client homes.
Role Summary:
The Registered Nurses are integral to helping Safehaven achieve its goals of providing the highest in quality of care to children with complex medical needs and dependent on life-sustaining medical technology.
Reporting to the Director, Programs and Professional Practice, A key responsibility of this role is to provide supervision, care and programming for clients who are medically complex and are reliant on life sustaining medical technology and equipment in a residential setting. This provision of care includes direct care, medication administration, ventilation and tracheostomy intervention, and any other medical oversight required.
As part of the interdisciplinary team, you will practice within your full scope to plan, organize and provide care to patients in accordance with the nursing philosophy and according to the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and within the Regulated Health Professionals Act legislation. Specifically, you will apply knowledge of nursing process, as it relates to scope of practice, to achieve identified patient goals when overall care needs are less complex, outcomes are predictable, and risk of negative outcomes is low.
Responsibilities:
- Provide for the daily living needs of medically complex and technologically dependent clients by maintaining a safe environment with appropriate attention given to individual health and care needs, nutrition, hygiene, and recreational/program planning;
- Always provide the highest level of care and improving the lives of clients and their families;
- Develop and implement a nursing plan of care for clients with ventilation and tracheostomy needs;
- Provide ventilation and tracheostomy care and management for clients;
- Work in collaboration with the child/family and the interdisciplinary health care team;
- Maintain clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and lifelong learning;
- Utilize evidence-based practice as a base in the promotion of professional accountability;
- Provide safe, competent, and ethical nursing care.
- Other duties may assign to you by your supervisor and indirect supervisor according to the needs of the business/ organization
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree and/or Diploma in Nursing;
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Ventilation and tracheostomy training care is required;
- Provide exceptional service to all employees while being an ambassador and role model of Safehaven’s core values to provide services to clients and families.
- Experience in pediatric nursing is considered an asset;
- Experience working with vulnerable;
- Critical care skills are an asset, but not essential;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork abilities.
