Your role is to ensure the safety of children/youth and connect with relevant community resources/organizations to promote permanency, enhance parental capacity, family functioning and wellness. Your ability to work collaboratively with families and community partners in the creation of safety plans and identifying both safety and risk factors is a critical element of this role. Additionally, an in-depth understanding of family dynamics, trauma informed practice and a harm reduction approach is key to your success. A fundamental component to the caseworker role is the ability to work in a culturally informed and sensitive manner that honours the path of truth and reconciliation and lifelong connection for all children.

Your excellent time management, interpersonal, interviewing, assessment, problem solving, and decision-making skills are critical to your success in this role. Strong verbal and written communication skills are also a must for effective case planning, presentation of documents at Court, and working with family support networks and community partners.

Education: A Bachelor of Social Work with at least six months' of directly related experience.
Work Experience: Conducting assessments, advocating, case planning and management to support vulnerable children and families.

The following experience would be considered an asset:
  • Experience and knowledge working with Indigenous cultures
  • Experience working within a socially inclusive environment
  • Experience working in a child intervention setting
  • Experience working with community resources
The following equivalencies may also be considered: a related university degree with two years of related experience; or a related diploma plus three years of related experience.

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong critical thinking skills.


$2,532.32 - $3,273.50 bi-weekly


  • This competition will be used to create a list of qualified applicants to be placed in current and future temporary and/or permanent vacancies across the Government of Alberta, at the same or lower classification level.

Due to wait times to receive a completed Criminal Records Check (CRC) that includes Vulnerable Sector screening check, applicants that are invited for an interview are encouraged to request a completed CRC (level 1) that includes Vulnerable Sector screening check from their local RCMP/Police detachment prior to their interview. As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if: (a) they have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or (b) they have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta; or (c) they have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards.
