Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms with the necessary instruments and materials, ensuring aseptic techniques and infection control protocols are strictly followed.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans when applicable, to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Manage patient records accurately using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft while maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy.
- Perform chairside assisting duties, including taking vital signs, medical history updates, and explaining procedures to patients to ease anxiety.
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing medical records efficiently.
- Ensure the clinic maintains high standards of infection control and safety through proper sterilization and aseptic techniques.
- Educate patients on post-treatment care and dental terminology to promote ongoing oral health awareness.
Qualifications
- Certified Dental Assistant credential from an accredited program with current certification.
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a busy dental clinic environment; experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with Epic is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge, and dental terminology.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners safely and effectively.
- Skilled in chairside assisting for various procedures across general dentistry disciplines such as prosthodontics and endodontics.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members—including dental receptionists—and provide compassionate patient care.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical coding practices for accurate documentation of medical records.
