Position Summary:
Finance Manager has ownership of month end close, including journals, reconciliations, reporting, as well as identifying issues and proposing solutions, standardizing processes, and procedures with an efficiency demeanor. Strong financial planning and analysis and interpersonal skills will make you a valued member of this team, supporting a growing business. This role will report directly to the Corporate Controller.
Duties:
- Support the monthly full cycle financial results process of the company to ensure accurate, complete and timely results through:
- Partnership with various business unit stakeholders to understand the business
- Review and critical analysis of financial results
- Management of risks and provisions
- Support of various internal and external reporting
- Preparation, review and/or approval of month end transactional processes
- Support of control environment and audit requirements
- Lead and support various special projects
- Provide guidance on transactions, projects, processes, and accounting standards to support business goals while maintaining strong governance and controls.
- Identify areas for process improvement and contribute to implementation efforts to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identify and address gaps in information systems, data systems, and financial reporting tools.
- Recommend and implement process improvement initiatives, leveraging technology to optimize efficiency.
- Assist in coordinating and overseeing functions related to the transformation of the financial results close.
- Examining and reconciling AR and AP records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Verifying outstanding invoices, tracking payments, and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Maintaining financial integrity and supporting effective cash flow management within the organization.
- Fulfill ad-hoc assignments and special requests as needed to support the financial objectives and operational needs of the organization.
Experience:
- CPA, CA, CFA or related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in a complex corporate accounting environment with a strong understanding and use of IFRS or local GAAP accounting principles.
- Transportation/Logistics experience is an asset
- Adept in financial reporting (ASPE)
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to scope, assess, and implement new technologies to automate or digitalize legacy processes.
- Advanced critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong teamwork and ability to work independently
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Education:
- Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or Business
- CPA (CA or CFA) designation
Work Environment:
The Finance Manager will primarily work in an office setting, utilizing standard office equipment and computer systems. The position may require occasional overtime during peak periods.
