Maintenance Supervisor – Toronto, ON

Role Summary:
The incumbent is responsible to organize, plan, direct and control the maintenance department, staff, and equipment. To achieve progressively positively results through the willing cooperation and development of others as well as other departments. To support the Plant Production to achieve the prescribed results of the plant.
Key Accountabilities:
- Coordination of Maintenance of equipment and facility.
- Implementation of cost control, safety procedures and work quality.
- Direct and lead unionized staff in the maintenance of facility and production equipment.
- Plan preventive maintenance and coordinate and organize schedules.
- Implement installation of new capital equipment.
- Timely response to safety related items.
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC’s, sensors, servo drives etc.
- Ensure employees and contractors conform to all company policies i.e. OHSA, HACCP.
- Schedule of employee shifts in the Maintenance Department.
- Develop method of tracking repairs daily focused on continuous improvement.
- Provide training as required.
- Autonomous maintenance.
- Ensure that a structured approach to safety performance, environmental diligence and housekeeping is taken.
- Ensures all start up required forms/reporting are complete.
- Ensures all employees work in a safe manner.
- Ensures all equipment is safe to operate.
- Participates in monthly Workplace Inspection Tour as required.
- Investigates and completes all Accident Reports immediately. Ensures corrective action is applied immediately.
- Ensures all First Aid Incidents are reported and arrange for or ensure employees receive First Aid or Medical Aid, as required.
- Control of line downtime.
- Ensures employees are trained in maintenance of all equipment and health &safety.
- Ensures Lock-out, confined Space etc. are adhered to by the maintenance crew and machine operators.
- Ensures all maintenance work is signed off.
- Implements company policies.
- Manages the shift and employees in keeping with the rules of the Collective Agreement.
- Ensures all visitors to the plant are monitored and follow all Sofina policies.
- Ensures all safety regulations and GMP’s are adhered to.
- Ensures employee attendance is maintained in the data track.
- Works with H. R. Department to ensure good labor relations are maintained.
- Works closely with the H R Department to ensure Modified Work Programs for injured employees are successfully implemented.
- Ensures reports are clear accurate and informative. All needed date to reflect the day’s events must be recorded. All comments should describe the facts, action taken and results.
- Supervise the activities of the maintenance department to ensure compliance to HACCP requirements, Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manual and PM program.
- Organize and oversee the outside resources as needed to ensure that Sofina HACCP and Food Safety policies are being followed.

Qualification:
- Graduate of a Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or Technology Program.
- Class B Refrigeration, and/or Millwright, and/or Electrician’s license.
- Fully computer literature.
- Five years’ experience as a maintenance supervisor in a manufacturing environment particularly in
high-speed packaging, food processing experiences an asset.
- Experience in managing employees in a unionized environment.
- Strong planning, analytical, negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead meeting with hourly employees.
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical equipment.
- Excellent Leadership skills.
- Knowledge of all Labor and Health & Safety Regulations.
Working conditions:
- Incumbent must be physically fit. [This position may require physical effort 30% to 40% of the time which may entail lifting and moving heavy equipment].
- Work environment is wet, damp and refrigerated 50 degrees F or less. Warm clothing is required.
- Noise level may exceed 90 decibels. Hearing protection is mandatory.
- Use of safety shoes/boots is mandatory.
- Wearing of White or Blue smock, hair net, beard net (if applicable) and all company prescribed PPE is mandatory.
- Ability to rotate between Plants and shifts, if required.
