The Assistant General Manager will perform the following duties:
Hotel Metro is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant General Manager to support the management of its hotel operations in London, Ontario.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Owner/Director, who also serves as the General Manager. The Assistant General Manager will help plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the hotel’s daily operations. This position requires a service-oriented leader who can support employees, maintain high hospitality standards, respond effectively to guest needs and contribute to the hotel’s operational and financial performance.
About the Position
The Assistant General Manager will assist the General Manager with the day-to-day administration and operation of the hotel. The successful candidate will oversee guest services, employee performance, reservations, housekeeping coordination, operating procedures, revenue monitoring and customer satisfaction.
The Assistant General Manager will also act on behalf of the General Manager when authorized and will help ensure that the hotel provides a professional, welcoming and consistent experience for its guests.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A bachelor’s degree in hotel management, hospitality management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Previous management or supervisory experience in hotel, accommodation or hospitality operations
- Experience coordinating front desk, reservations, guest services, housekeeping or other hotel functions
- Strong knowledge of hospitality operations and customer service standards
- Ability to supervise, train, motivate and evaluate employees
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong organizational, administrative and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple operational priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership, decision-making and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to address guest concerns professionally and identify appropriate solutions
- Knowledge of budgeting, revenue monitoring, inventory control and expense management
- Proficiency with hotel reservation systems, property management systems and standard office software
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays when required
- High level of professionalism, discretion, reliability and attention to detail
Job Responsibilities
- Assist the General Manager in planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the daily operations of the hotel.
- Implement and evaluate policies, procedures and service standards for hotel operations.
- Coordinate the activities of guest services, front desk, reservations, housekeeping and other operational functions.
- Supervise hotel employees and ensure that assigned duties are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Participate in employee recruitment, orientation, training, scheduling and performance evaluation.
- Prepare employee work schedules according to occupancy levels and operational requirements.
- Monitor reservations, room availability, occupancy levels, room rates and guest service requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of pricing, promotional and revenue management strategies.
- Prepare operational reports and provide recommendations to the General Manager.
- Assist with the preparation of operating budgets and monitor hotel revenues, expenses and departmental performance.
- Maintain accurate operational, financial, employee and guest service records.
- Respond to guest inquiries, requests, complaints and service concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Investigate service issues and implement appropriate corrective measures to improve guest satisfaction.
- Ensure that rooms, common areas and guest service areas are maintained according to the hotel’s cleanliness, presentation and safety standards.
- Coordinate with housekeeping, maintenance personnel and external service providers to address operational requirements.
- Negotiate with suppliers and service providers for the purchase or provision of hotel materials, equipment and services, when authorized.
- Monitor hotel inventory and ensure that operating supplies are available whilh controlling unnecessary costs.
- Assist with group reservations, special guest arrangements and other hotel service requirements.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with guests, suppliers, community partners and business clients.
- Monitor guest feedback and online reviews and recommend measures to improve the hotel’s service quality and reputation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment, health and safety, fire safety, accessibility, privacy and hospitality requirements.
- Promote a safe, respectful and professional working environment for employees and guests.
- Participate in management meetings and provide updates regarding hotel operations, staffing, guest satisfaction and financial performance.
- Identify operational problems and recommend improvements to hotel policies, procedures and service delivery.
- Act on behalf of the General Manager during periods of absence or when specifically authorized.
- Perform other hotel management and administrative duties assigned by the Owner/Director or General Manager.
Pay: $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.0 per week
