Primary Purpose
The Associate Director of Finance will report to the Associate Vice President of Finance. The primary responsibility of the Associate Director of Finance is to ensure the accurate and timely production of internal and external financial statements, manage audit and tax functions efficiently, oversee daily operations, and meet the strategic objectives of the Finance function.
Specific Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Finance will, at various times, be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support UCW's business objectives, mission, and purpose:
Financial Reporting:

Ensures all accounting and financial reporting activities are completed on an accurate and timely basis.

Oversee the preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial and management reports Communicate with the parent company’s Corporate Accounting team on global reporting needs.

Ensure all accounting and financial reporting policies are aligned with the global group policies.

Monitor the trial balance and ensure that all accounts are reconciled on an established cycle as relevant. Keep track of lease agreements and capital expenditures, making necessary corrections as needed.

Establish and maintain schedules and deadlines that allow UCW to meet its internal and external reporting requirements.

Report all financial or reporting findings that are of concern or interest to relevant senior management.

Review, develop and implement financial policies and procedures. Conduct periodic reviews of existing financial policies and procedures to ensure they remain relevant, effective, and aligned with the latest industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Identify gaps or weaknesses in current policies and develop new policies to address these areas, ensuring the financial operations are robust and comprehensive.
Audit and Tax:

Manage the year-end financial statement reporting and audit process to deliver working papers and supporting documentation to the external auditors.

Prepare audit financial statements to adhere to IFRS.

Ensure that all accounting processes are organized to efficiently and seamlessly support the production of financial statements in accordance with IFRS.

Act as the primary liaison with the external auditors.

Manage all tax planning and compliance activities. Coordinate completion of tax returns.

Participate in the tax strategy of UCW to maximize the shareholder interest.
Internal Control:

Review, develop and implement financial policies and procedures. Accountable for Financial control, accounting and reporting, financial systems, financial documentation, payroll, capital expenditures and a variety of finance functions.

Maintain good records and documentation in the accounting system and the company shared drive.
Leadership:

Ensure the team has sufficient training and tools to best support the organizational goals and meet business needs.

Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate finance staff.

Coach and develop the team which includes setting performance expectations and identifying when performance improvement plans are needed.

Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
Operations:

Participate in the operating system and accounting system implementations and business processes to achieve short-term and long-term objectives for the Finance department and organizational goals.

Optimize the overall finance function in all areas of financial operations by ensuring that work is performed as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Maintain good relationships with the bank, students, staff, vendors and insurance provider.

Partner with key stakeholders on key business initiatives and assessment of results, business trends and areas for financial improvements

Education and experience:

Demonstrated experience in IFRS reporting, audit, tax and payroll.

A CPA designation is required.

Experience in a public accounting firm is strongly preferred.

5+ years of hands-on experience leading finance and accounting teams.
-
Experience with system implementation projects would be considered a strong asset.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, particularly skilled in Excel.
