Role Description

Join a dynamic team that is committed to providing database services to Great West Life. You’ll be responsible for delivering and supporting data base solutions in a wide range of technologies including DB2 LUW, DB2 Mainframe, Oracle, and SQL Server.

The Database Analyst is will participate in the design, development, and operational support of databases in a variety of technologies including DB2 LUW, DB2 Mainframe, Oracle, and SQL Server. The database analyst will also contribute to best practices and assist in maturing process and controls to ensure the team well positioned to support our business units and customers.

What you’ll do:
You will work with application delivery teams to understand and define data and database requirements
You will participate in the development of logical data models
You will develop physical data models and database designs
You will construct test and production databases (adding tables, creating indices, allocating space, etc.)
You will document and educate other team members on database design and usage
You will provide support for application development teams including mentoring on best practices for database usage, and by participating in code walkthroughs
You will coach/mentor others and focus on continuous learning and professional development
You will be available to be on-call as part of a rotation with team members
You will provide operation support including performance tuning, health monitoring, database backup management, data recovery, creation of objects
You will work to improve the database management practice by challenging existing processes and implementing new controls and automation
You will contribute to the elimination of problems through permanent fixes including the identification of solutions, scoping the work, and executing the changes
You will perform in occasional after hours and weekend work as required

Who you are:
You are relationship builder who understands the importance of a happy client
You are comfortable prioritizing and managing work
You have a completed Degree/diploma in related discipline (computer science) or equivalent combination of training and experience
You have strong desire to work as part of a team, plan and organize your own work, communicate effectively in writing and verbally in person or remotely
You have a minimum 5 years’ experience in an IS environment
You have a good understanding of logical and physical data modeling techniques
You have at least 3 years of database design or support and administration experience in one or more of the following platforms:
DB2 Midrange (luw)
DB2 Mainframe
MS SQL Server
Oracle
You have superior analytical and problem-solving skills
You have a proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative business relationships
You have effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure
