Bird Mechanical Ltd., a well established mechanical contractor with offices in Ontario and Atlantic Canada requires a Project Coordinator for office based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and will report the General Manager, Atlantic Canada.
The ideal candidate will have a knowledge and understanding of the construction or mechanical industry, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Outlook as well as be self-motivated and have a desire to learn.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Assist the Project Managers and Superintendent, where applicable, in the day to day duties of a project’s administration.
- Act as liaison with subcontractors in expediting drawings and related information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs (RFI, Vendor/Subcontractor, Purchase, Owner etc.), track responses and advise the Project Manager and Superintendent of the status of RFIs.
- Obtain quotations for Notices of Change.
- Maintain and update the shop drawing log, collect and review shop drawings and submittals.
- Coordinate submittals and procure all close-out documents including warranties and operating and maintenance manuals.
- Monitor field work, including contract work, to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, specifications and codes.
- Understand and perform document control functions in accordance with on-site policy and procedures, including tracking and creating of RFIs, transmitting and tracking of submittals, compose agreements, and maintain project expediting list.
- Attend project meetings and site visits as required.
- Help streamline communication between Project Managers and Consultants or Owners as well as sub trades.
- Provide additional help when required to the estimating department to close tenders
- Assist Administration Staff and Estimating Department with job prequalification packages (binding, typing, copying etc.)
- Assist with other operational requirements as required.
- Be able to work both on site and in an office.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
- Construction industry knowledge and experience an asset.
- Working knowledge of mechanical equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, materials, and required standards applicable to discipline an asset.
- Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others. Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to represent the company and project team in a professional manner to the Owner, Architect, related project staff and the community.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Project is an asset
- An Educational Background in Mechanical Engineering is an asset but not required.
This position is ideal for University/College Graduates with a mechanical or project management background looking to enter the construction field or those with experience.
The successful applicant must be willing to complete their initial training and orientation at our Newmarket, Ontario office for a 2-4 week period.
Regular hours of work: Monday to Thursday 7:30am - 4:30pm and Fridays 7:30am-3:00pm
