Now Hiring: Experienced Tradesperson to Teach DIY Home Renovation Classes - specifically looking for an electrician for our basic homeowner electrical classes
Location: Edmonton, AB
Type: Part-time, Contract | Flexible Hours
Are you a seasoned tradesperson looking for a fulfilling way to stay active, share your skills and make a real difference? Whether you’re retired, semi-retired, or simply looking for a flexible side gig, The DIY Training Center has the perfect opportunity for you.
We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Residential Electrical Renovation Instructor to lead small-group, practical workshops teaching homeowners how to confidently tackle their own renovation and repair projects. If you've spent years mastering your trade and love the idea of passing that knowledge on to others—this role is for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead hands-on classes that teach real-world renovation techniques to homeowners eager to learn. Our workshops are practical, upbeat and rooted in real experience—not textbook theory.
Topics you may teach include:
- Types of switches and their functions (single-pole, 3-way, 4-way, timer, and dimmer)
- How to install and replace light fixtures safely
- Proper installation of 15A and 20A receptacles
- Testing receptacles for correct wiring and function
- Troubleshooting common issues such as loose connections or tripped breakers
- Essential do’s and don’ts of homeowner electrical safety
Classes are run throughout the week—days, evenings, and weekends—and we’ll work with your availability to build a schedule that fits your lifestyle.
Who We’re Looking For
- Experienced in residential renovations
- Patient and personable – you enjoy working with people and explaining things in a way that makes sense
- Reliable and professional, with strong communication skills
- Comfortable teaching small groups in a hands-on setting
Please note: Only applicants with an electrical background in residential renovations will be considered. Other applications will not be reviewed at this time.
Why You’ll Love This Job
- Flexible, part-time schedule
- Rewarding work helping others succeed
- Fun, interactive work environment
- Great way to stay active in your field without the physical demands of full-time site work
- A chance to give back and share the lessons you've learned over your career
