About the Role
TRC Solar Inc. is seeking a licensed Electrical Engineer (P.Eng) to support the design and implementation of commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering design, utility coordination, and professional stamping of electrical drawings for distributed energy projects.
This role is ideal for an engineer interested in renewable energy who wants hands-on involvement in project development, design, and construction of commercial solar installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for commercial solar PV systems
- Stamp engineering drawings in accordance with Professional Engineers Ontario requirements
- Complete and submit utility interconnection applications and supporting documentation
- Conduct site visits, site assessments, and project walk-throughs
- Prepare detailed site plans and electrical room layouts
- Develop:
- Equipment schedules
- Labeling and electrical marking plans
- Protection philosophy documentation
- Conductor schedules
- DC design schedules
- String configuration details
- Bonding and grounding plans
- Perform voltage drop calculations and electrical system sizing
- Coordinate with utilities, electricians, and project managers during project development
- Provide technical support during installation and commissioning
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario through Professional Engineers Ontario
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience in electrical design for solar PV systems or power distribution preferred
- Strong understanding of:
- Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
- Utility interconnection processes
- Distributed energy systems
- Proficiency with design software such as:
- AutoCAD
- Electrical design tools
- PV system design software (considered an asset)
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills
Requirements
- Must be based in the Greater Toronto Area
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for site visits
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment (office, field, and remote work)
