About the Position
Kumon Math & Reading Centre of Port Elgin is looking for a serious, responsible, and knowledgeable Math & English Instructor to join our team.
This position is ideal for someone who has a strong academic background in both Mathematics and English and enjoys working with children and youth.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting students, monitoring their progress, providing guidance, and helping them develop confidence, independence, and strong learning habits.
We are looking for someone who is interested in more than simply supervising students. The ideal candidate should be comfortable understanding students' work, identifying difficulties, and providing appropriate guidance when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist students with Kumon Math and Reading worksheets and assignments.
- Provide clear, patient, and age-appropriate guidance.
- Monitor student progress and identify areas requiring additional support.
- Check and evaluate student work accurately.
- Help students develop independent learning and problem-solving skills.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and focused learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with the Centre staff regarding student progress and concerns.
- Follow Kumon's instructional methods and Centre procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and pay close attention to student work.
- Support the day-to-day operation of the Centre as required.
Qualifications & SkillsRequired
- Strong knowledge of Mathematics and English.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work patiently and effectively with children and teenagers.
- Dependable, punctual, and professional.
- Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility.
- Ability to explain academic concepts clearly.
- Positive attitude and a genuine interest in education.
Assets
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience.
- University or college education, particularly in Mathematics, Education, Engineering, Science, English, or a related field.
- Experience working with elementary or high-school students.
- Experience in a Kumon Centre or similar learning environment.

Schedule
The Centre operates after school and on selected weekdays/weekends. Part-time hours will be discussed during the interview based on Centre needs and candidate availability.
