Reporting to the Farm Program and Development Manager, the Kitchen Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of FortWhyte Farms culinary programs, overseeing the commercial kitchen operational needs and working with youth facing barriers. (35 hours/week, Monday to Friday, some evenings and weekends, as needed).
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver culinary programs and skill development for youth and the public along with Farm Program and Employment Coordinator
- Assist in developing and maintaining partnerships to develop outside learning, training and community service opportunities for youth participants
- Coordinate Kitchen equipment purchases, general maintenance, food inventory and supplies
- Process and preserve seasonal produce in collaboration with the Farm Operations Manager
- Produce FortWhyte Farms products for sale and distribution inline with FWA’s social enterprise goals
- Produce goods for internal catering and programming needs
- Coordinate year round commercial kitchen facility rentals
- Train and support seasonal staff with assistance from FortWhyte Farms staff
- Assess the operational needs of the culinary programs and ensure volunteers are trained and scheduled appropriately in collaboration with the Volunteer Services Manager
- Support youth-led preparation and service of a weekly community partnership lunch (30 attendees) throughout the Summer months
- Assist the Farm Program and Development Manager in ensuring reporting requirements for grants and support agencies are met
- Provide required information for budgeting purposes to the Farm Program and Development Manager
- Support overall Farm operations when needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Education in/or related experience in Culinary Arts with experience working with diverse youth facing barriers
- Proven initiative and problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a dynamic and flexible environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills, when dealing with coworkers and the public
- Exceptional ability to work cooperatively with other team members and to lead group youth
- Ability to develop and facilitate programming a variety of ages and abilities
- Experience with delivering exceptional customer service
- Valid Driver’s License (Class 4 or ability to obtain)
- Satisfactory background checks of the child abuse registry and criminal records
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
