Overview of the role:
WestJet is seeking a Planner - Distribution Centre. Reporting to the Manager - Distribution Centre Inventory Planning & Control, this is responsible for ensuring the right products are available at the right location, at the right time, across WestJet's global distribution and provisioning network. This role develops inventory and supply plans that balance service level requirements, operational needs, inventory investment, and supplier capabilities. Working closely with Procurement, Guest Experience, Operations, and external suppliers, the Inventory Planner leverages forecasting, inventory planning, and analytical tools to optimize replenishment strategies, support new initiatives, and maintain high product availability throughout the network.
The Inventory Planner plays a critical role in managing inventory performance, driving continuous improvement, and supporting WestJet's operational and guest service objectives through effective supply chain planning practices.
Key deliverables include:
- Develop and maintain supply plans that balance service level requirements, inventory investment, operational needs, and supplier capabilities across WestJet's network.
- Analyze demand drivers, consumption trends, seasonality, schedules, lead times, and supplier performance to generate accurate forecasts and replenishment strategies.
- Establish and optimize inventory planning parameters including safety stock, reorder points, minimum order quantities, and service level targets.
- Monitor inventory performance and proactively identify supply risks, capacity constraints, excess inventory, and stock-out exposure; develop mitigation plans as required.
- Lead inventory planning activities related to new product introductions, product transitions, and phase-in/phase-out initiatives across the network.
- Partner with Procurement, Operations, Distribution Centers, and business stakeholders to align supply plans with operational priorities and strategic objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on forecast accuracy, inventory optimization, supplier performance, and total cost of ownership.
- Champion supply planning best practices and planning processes that improve network efficiency, product availability, and overall supply chain performance.
Experience and qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in supply planning, inventory planning, demand planning, procurement, or supply chain operations.
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Experience with forecasting, inventory optimization, and supply planning methodologies.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JDE, TRAX, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities.
