RVA is actively seeking an Environmental Planner who is looking for a role that can provide the opportunity to expand their experience and responsibility combined with exposure to a wide variety of infrastructure projects across the company's various business lines.

This role will afford the individual the opportunity to work closely with RVA's project managers and other professionals across multiple disciplines. The individual will also gain valuable experience in client and stakeholder liaison, project management, proposal preparation for a variety of public and private sector clients, as well as undertaking some business development efforts by identifying, capturing and qualifying opportunities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Work with and support intermediate and senior environmental planners in carrying out Environmental Assessments and approvals/permitting processes for a range of infrastructure projects transportation, water supply and wastewater treatment
Contribute to environmental assessments and other planning or policy projects including research, report writing, fieldwork and stakeholder engagement
Assist with the coordination, development and implementation of consultation programs
Collaborate with technical and professional staff from across the company and sub consultants to complete assignments
Assist with preparation of proposals for various pursuits
Contribute to RVA's corporate profile through active participation in professional associations, committees and events
Business travel to other RVA offices upon request
Assist other staff with additional duties as assigned

Degree in planning, geography, environmental studies, or related field, preferably at the Master's level
1-3 years of professional experience, preferably in the consulting industry
Eligibility for membership or provisional membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners CIP
Strong organizational skills
Very Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
A valid Ontario Driver's Licence Class G and access to a personal vehicle for business purposes

Preferred Experience:
Our preferred candidate will have strong communication, report writing, organization and interpersonal skills along with the following experience:

Experience or familiarity with Environmental Assessment legislation and a wide variety of environmental assessment processes Individual EAs, Municipal Class EA, MTO Class EA, Transit Project Assessment Process, REA Process, etc.
Familiarity with municipal planning policy and legislation and the land development process
Experience with and/or exposure to regulatory authorities MNRF, MECP, MTCS, Conservation Authorities, DFO, etc. , is considered an asset
Familiar with local, Provincial and Federal agencies permitting and approvals processes
Familiarity with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act , Canadian Environmental Assessment Act , Ontario Energy Board environmental policies, and other legislation related to the position Fisheries Act, Navigation Protection Act, Species at Risk Act, Endangered Species Act , etc.
Skills in graphic design, data manipulation and presentations would be considered an asset e.g. GIS, PowerPoint and Adobe Suite Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
