ABOUT THE POSITION
Washagamis Bay First Nation is seeking an experienced, professional and community-minded Band Manager to provide leadership and oversight of the Nation's administration and day-to-day operations. Reporting directly to Chief and Council, the Band Manager is the senior administrative leader responsible for implementing Council's decisions and strategic priorities, leading staff, overseeing financial and administrative operations, and supporting the effective delivery of programs and services to members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the Nation's administration and operations.
- Advise and report to Chief and Council and implement Council decisions, resolutions, policies and strategic direction.
- Oversee programs and services, including Administration, Finance, Governance, Health, Education, Social Services, and Operations and Maintenance.
- Supervise managers and senior staff and oversee recruitment, performance management, employee accountability and workplace matters.
- Ensure compliance with personnel, financial, governance and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Lead strategic planning and support implementation of the Nation's short- and long-term priorities.
- Work with Finance and Program Managers to develop and monitor annual budgets, financial controls, funding agreements and reporting requirements.
- Support annual audits and maintain strong financial and administrative accountability.
- Oversee capital projects, contracts, proposals and relationships with contractors, consultants and professional advisors.
- Maintain productive relationships with Indigenous Services Canada, other governments, funding agencies and external organizations.
- Promote effective communication among Chief and Council, administration, employees and community members.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and perform other duties assigned by Chief and Council.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Indigenous Governance or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of senior management experience.
- Demonstrated experience supervising employees and managing a complex organization.
- Strong financial management, budgeting, reporting and organizational accountability experience.
- Experience in human resources, policy administration and workplace management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with elected leadership, employees, community members, governments and external partners.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and administrative systems.
- A valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience as a Band Manager, Band Administrator, Chief Administrative Officer, Executive Director, or comparable senior leader.
- Experience working with a First Nation, Indigenous organization, municipality, government or public-sector organization.
- Knowledge of First Nation governance and administration, government funding agreements and the Canada Labour Code.
- Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe culture, traditions and community values.
COMPENSATION
Washagamis Bay First Nation offers a salary of $90,000–$120,000 per year, commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience, together with competitive employee benefits.
