The Mortgage Underwriter will adjudicate predominantly Alt A lending for the CWB Financial Group and some Alt A lending from broker-originated opportunities. Our group works in a high volume, high pace, sales-oriented, and client focused manner.
Receive, review, analyze and verify mortgage applications for completeness, accuracy, suitability and risk to ensure compliance with all aspects of CWB’s underwriting policies, procedures and guidelines.
Negotiate loans, price and set terms and conditions on conventional and high ratio A residential mortgage applications together with some Alt A originating from branch customers and referrals within our core operating regions.
Assist with overflow applications in all centres
Contribution to the achievement of departmental volume targets and lender fee income goals
Ensure supporting documentation relating to a deal is deemed satisfactory in order for the deal to proceed onto funding
Conduct the underwriting function within D&H Express , Oscar and WAVE loan origination systems
Provide coaching and leadership support to Branch lenders for ownership of the deal opportunity from the point of inception through to funding
Adhere to applicable compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist financing, Internal Fraud Policies and KYC.
Promote cooperation and commitment within the CWB Group towards the attainment of common goals enabling productive group interactions.
Work effectively with all internal / external business partners to underwriting quality transactions and providing a high level of service.
Essential Education and Experience:
Post-secondary degree in commerce, finance, or business disciplines.
A Lending/underwriting experience is required. Alt –A lending/ underwriting is an asset
AMP mortgage industry accreditation program –benefit not a requirement
Common sense lending to Alt A borrowers and A-Caliber.
Strong understanding of Insurer (CMHC and Genworth) eligibility guidelines.
Solid computer savvy and application skills (Word, Excel etc.)

Be able to work independently
Have attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Administrative skills and ability to prioritize in a high-risk and high-volume team environment.
