Reporting to the Underground Mine Superintendent, you will be part of the Mine Department. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
Manage day-to-day operations for mine development, production and construction and lead by example to build a safe and strong employee culture;
Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of mine operations employees in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner, either personally or through subordinate supervisors;
Monitor costs, productivity, health & safety and employee motivation;
Interact with the Mine Management team to establish production and quality standards by using knowledge of mining technology (methods, procedures, standards and machine & equipment capabilities);
Set priorities, plan and direct mining activities in keeping up with effective mining operations and cost controls;
Coordinate production activities along with procurement, maintenance, production planning, safety and quality control activities in order to obtain optimal use of employee and equipment resources;
Review and analyze production to determine the sources of variance between production performance and goals;
Collaborate and communicate effectively with all appropriate parties, developing and implementing methods and procedures to eliminate operational problems and improve efficiency as well as ore quality;
Communicate and coordinate with the engineering team and other departments to develop and implement actions allowing us to improve productivity and efficiency;
Lead by example and manage the performance and development of direct reports, ensuring compliance with the Agnico Eagle Mining Personnel Policies and Procedures;
Provide specific training and development opportunities for immediate employees;
Coach and mentor subordinates in regard to employee relations, safety, environmental, productivity and cost issues and address inappropriate behavior as required;
Assist in the development and preparation of capital and operating budgets;
Routinely review expenditures to prevent excess costs or inaccurate charges;
Interface with vendors and suppliers to ensure the efficient use of supplies and tools;
Oversee investigations involving safety incidents, accidents and near misses, ensuring that reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner, and recommend procedures and methods to improve employee safety;
Replace the Superintendent on occasion, as required.
