JOB OVERVIEW
REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Corporate Finance
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Finance, the Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for the accounts payable function for a portfolio of retirement residences to ensure payables are processed accurately and on a timely basis. This role manages the AP team, establishes and maintains effective processes and internal controls, and works closely with Finance, Operations and external vendors to ensure financial obligations are properly recorded and settled.
The Accounts Payable Manager will play a key role in improving AP processes, strengthening controls, supporting month-end close, and ensuring the organization maintains accurate and reliable accounts payable records.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the day-to-day accounts payable function, including invoice receipt, coding, approval, processing, and payment
- Enters, reviews, and codes corporate and capex invoices sent into head office, including expense claims
- Reviews property level operating expenses for coding
- Review accounts payable invoices (including backup) and coding entered by retirement community staff for accuracy
- Reviews weekly payment cycle package for electronic fund transfers, cheques and wires including workflow approvals
- Reviews and approves new vendors
- Ensure appropriate supporting documentation is maintained for audit purposes
- Establish, maintain, and monitor effective internal controls over the accounts payable and payment processes
- Lead, supervise, and develop the accounts payable team, including coaching, training and providing ongoing feedback to team members
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement by establishing clear responsibilities, performance expectations and service standards
- Responds to internal and external customers concerning all payment transactions processed within Accounts Payable
- Assists the property accountants with investigations for month end accruals
- Assist with budget process
- Ad hoc requests as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of progressive experience in accounts payable or accounting role, preferably in a real estate environment and experience managing an AP function
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- CPA designation or equivalent accounting designation is an asset
- Familiarity with Yardi is an asset
- Familiarity with seniors housing is preferred
Pay: From CA$85,000.00 per year
